Well, well, well! Our president, after days of silence, non-speeches, dickering over bank bailout, musing and dithering about 'the bow' that wasn't a bow, etc. a decision was made to rescue an American sailor being held captive by Somalian pirates. In this instance, the president exercised the one clearly identified constitutional power that only he is entitled -- commander-in-chief. No senators, congresspersons, governors, mayors, not even generals, admirals, or captains have C-in-C authority. So, Obama took time from his busy schedule doing things he has no authority to perform (e.g. regulating banks, running automakers, tinkering with health care, etc.) and did do the one thing the Constitution specifically provides. Thankfully, an American life was saved -- maybe, now, American authority, will, and determination will be respected. Thanks to .... need I write it? A democrat president!
Don't be surprised to hear grumbling on the political left because President Obama
authorized the use of deadly force. Don't be surprised also if the rest of the world
shouts anger and labels Obama a 'cowboy', war-monger, etc. Remember, folks, this
incident is but a smidgen of what the president faces -- my concern: can he hang tough?
Thanks for writing this.
